The new Yankee Stadium, completed in 2009, was built across the street from the original stadium, which housed some of the most celebrated players in Major League history, names such as, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig and Mickey Mantle.
The folklore attached to the NY Yankees have featured in many books, movies, documentaries and songs; the best known, being a curse enacting an 84 year-long drought for the Boston Red Sox from premier league when they sold ‘Babe Ruth’ to the NY Yankees in 1920.
Due to its central location and 52,000 seating capacity, the new stadium, like many large-scale sporting venues, also hosts other events such as boxing, football, music concerts and corporate and educational events and ceremonies.
If you find driving in New York too daunting a prospect, then the #4 subway train, Green Line express, is probably your best option. It also offers a brief, aboveground glimpse through the gap between the bleachers and the grandstand on arrival.
