        China is place that is fascinating people world over. Just hosting the Olympics in 2008 is enough incentive to get people from all nationalities flocking in droves to this vast country which has deserts in the west and oceans on the east.

        The country is steeped in history and offers a lot to the intrepid traveler.

         If you are visiting China from the US, be warned that you do need a visa to travel to China. You have to obtain the visa prior to departure. You have to personally go to the Chinese Embassy or the Chinese Consulate in your area to get the visa. In case you are unable to go to the embassy or the consulate, you can seek assistance from your travel agent or a visa agency. Obviously you will have to pay a fee but it might avoid the hassle of traveling to the embassy or consulate, especially if it is not located in your town or city.

        In case you are going in person to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate, do check website for holidays. Usually the embassy and consulates are closed on US and Chinese national holidays. Each consulate office has its own website so you should check out the website for the consulate that is closest to you to determine the opening hours and holidays. Accordingly you can plan your trip the consulate (or the embassy).

         A Chinese tourist visa, also known as L visa, is valid for 3 months prior to departure from the US, and once you enter China, the validity of the visa is for 30 days. The visa costs approximately $50 but can be more expensive if you using an agent to process it.

        Once you are armed with a visa for travel to China, you can start planning your trip and take the opportunity to explore the rich history this beautiful and mysterious country has to offer.
