Beijing, the capital of People's Republic of China hosted the Olympics of 2008. Among the other sites, the Gardens at the Beijing Olympics were one of the main attractions. The Topiary Gardens at Beijing stunned the visitors with their collection and the designs created with the help of trees, shrubs and various types of plants.

The gardens at the Beijing Olympics turned heads with its amazing display of artistic botanical sculptures. This was especially done with the aim of preserving the biodiversity. These structures represented the beauty of nature that needs to be preserved by humankind. Through these structures the preservation message was conveyed to thousands of visitors coming to China during the Olympics. This unique endeavor referred to as the 'Home for plants', 'Gardens for humans' was the result of hard work of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Committee, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Botanic Gardens Conservation International and Botanic Gardens Popular Network. These structures of the gardens at the Beijing Olympics were showcased during the months of July to September. Over 40 million plants and more than 500 species of flowers were used to decorate the gardens at the Beijing Olympics. Both the garden flowers and plants were used to decorate the Olympic Central Zone and the Capital Airport.

The gardens at the Beijing Olympics constituted athlete apartments covering around 360,000 sq meters. It also comprised a 200 hectare lake resembling a dragon within 867 hectares of Olympic Forest Park. This effort was very interestingly termed as the 'Olympic Greening' and the campaign was done under the name of 'garden city'. There were over 50 gardens of Olympics in 43 Chinese cities. Some of them were Guangzhou Olympic garden, China Sports Olympic Garden, Beijing Olympic Garden, Tianjin Olympic Garden and Shanghai Garden. The most amazing aspect of the gardens at the Beijing Olympics was the creation of three gardens underneath the fencing gym to cool the environment without using air conditioners. These gardens covered an area of 23 feet.
