Excursion Near Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai is an important tourist destination located in the northernmost province of Thailand. Located 785 kilometers north of Bangkok, Chiang Rai is one of the most exotic and colorful places to visit in Thailand. Also known as the gateway to Myanmar, Laos and South China, Chiang Rai is an indispensable part of the much famed Golden Triangle region. The entire Chiang Rai province is divided into 18 districts. Capital of this province is the Chiang Rai city that is located 820 kilometers north of Bangkok. City of Chiang Rai is easily accessible by road, rail and air. Daily flights operate to Bangkok and other important destinations in Southeast Asia from the nearest Chiang Rai International Airport.
There are several popular places located inside the province. Some important destinations include the Golden Triangle Province, Chiang Sean Lake, Pla Buk Captive Breeding Center at Chiang Kong, Buffalo Horn Hill, Khun Kon Waterfalls, Wat Rong Kuhn and the Mae Kok River. Various tour operators organize excursions and tours to any of these destinations for the convenience of tourists.
An excursion of the Golden Triangle province involves a boat ride on the Chiang Sean Lake, a visit to a nearby hill tribe village, visit to the northern-most border town of Mae Sai and then back to Chiang Rai. An interesting spot in this entire journey is Sop Ruak, where Mae Sai and Mekong rivers converge and form the borders of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. The entire scenery can be best viewed from the hilltop pavilion of Wat Phra That. Mekong and Mae Kok rivers offer numerous adventure sports for visitors that include rafting, boating and elephant trekking. One can also go through the province using longtail boats, motorcycles and jeeps.
