A passport is an important documented proof which holds one’s identity while traveling in other countries. It can cause a lot of problems if one loses such an important document. Hence, it is strongly advisable to replace a lost passport as soon as possible. Replacing a lost passport involves the same procedure as applying for a new one. |
This procedure may get tedious, as it may require you to complete some extra formalities. To replace a passport, you will have to put forward all details of your old passport and conditions under which it was stolen. You will need to fill a form stating the details, such as, what was your earlier passport number, date of issuance, how you lost your passport, etc. You will also need to notify the government about the lost passport case.
You may need to fill different forms for filing replacement of your lost passport. These forms are available in your local post office or government offices. The convenience of filing replacement for your lost passport is not available online; hence, you will have to visit the passport.
Apart from all the above mentioned requirements, you will have to repeat the same procedure as you had done to avail your old passport, i.e. documentation submissions, such as, identity proof, proof of citizenship, birth certificates, and so on. To avail a new passport, may take around six weeks of time. But if you’re in urgent need of the passport, you can also apply for rush passport, stating the reason of this rush. One important note, remember that your new passport will contain information that this is your replacement passport.
