Kenya has emerged to be a very popular tourist destination over the last few decades. Visitors from Europe and America travel to Kenya for vacations in the beautiful sandy white tropical beeches and a number of wildlife sanctuaries and parks in the country. The tourism sector is the largest private sector contribution to the economy of the country. While the natural abundance makes Kenya one of the top travel destinations in Africa, you need to take some precautions to ensure a safe trip.

The early part of the decade saw a civil war in Kenya among the two dominant groups of natives. This obviously raised questions on the safety of the travelers. However, after a peace treaty in 2008, the region stabilized and since then the government has worked hard to revive its tourism industry and ensure safe travel within Kenya. Although the locals value the travelers as a source of income and are courteous and protective, it is strongly recommended that you consult the consulate/US embassy for information on the prevailing conditions.

The US Department of State also issues regular travel updates and warnings to Kenya. Apart from the political unrest, the visitors are also urged to take due care of the food and water consumption during their travel to the country. Therefore, the travelers from US are urged to stay in established hotels and take precautions while eating local food. It is also recommended that you visit your doctor before and after your travel to Kenya to take precautionary medical treatment.
