North Korea Tourist Attractions
With all its drawbacks, North Korea is quite a popular destination in East Asia, attracting millions of visitors each year to enjoy the beautiful scenery, and absorb the local culture and ambience. Some of the most visited destinations in the country are Pyongyang, Wonsan and North Hwanghae. |
Pyongyang:
Pyongyang is the capital of North Korea and it is located on Taedong River. The city is located in the northwest part of the country and it is easily accessible through international airlines. The city has a international airport which is served by many international airlines. If you are visiting Beijing, you can take direct flight to Pyongyang from there. Or else, you can board a train from China and it will bring you to the main train station in the city.
A point to remember is that independent tours are not allowed in Pyongyang. So, you will have to take a guided tour. Some of the interesting landmarks in the city areJuche Tower, Children’s Palace, Ryugyong Hotel, USS Pueblo, the Arch of Triumph and the Korean War Museum. It is without a doubt that you will be taken to Mansudae to see the bronze statue of Kim Il-Sung. This statue is quite immense and stands 20 meters tall.
Wonsan:
Wonsan is a port city located in the southeast part of the country. Its crystal clear waters and beautiful pine plantations, make it a very popular tourist destination. You can visit Songdowon, Mount Kumgang, Chongsokjon, Lake Sijung and Myongsasimni.
North Hwanghae:
During the Joseon Dynasty, North Hwanghae was one of the eight provinces in the country. This city is located in the northwest part of the country and it is popular for the People’s Park. The provincial capital of North Hwanghae during the Joseon Dynasty was Haeju and visiting this place is worth the time and effort.
