How To Get To Noboribetsu In Hokkaido
Noboribetsu in Hokkaido is one of the most famous hot spring resorts. It is surrounded by forested hills and besides it baths, you can also see the Jigokudani or Hell Valley, which is home to many sulfurous vents, streams and ponds. Noboribetsu is actually comprised of the towns of Noboribetsu, Horobetsu and Washibetsu. However, most tourists directly head to the hot spring village of Noboribetsu onsen, which 6 kilometers inland from Noboribetsu. In Noboribetsu, there are 11 types of water in the hot springs and the water is full of sulfur and iron.
How to get to Noboribetsu in Hokkaido:
There are many ways of getting to Noboribetsu and some of them are discussed below:
- By plane: The nearest airport for Noboribetsu is Sapporo’s Shin-Chitose Airport. You can take Donan Bus from the airport and it will take you directly to Noboribetsu.
- By train: Noboribetsu is located on the JR Muroran line between Oshamambe and Tomakomai. Several limited express trains stop at Noboribetsu. If you are in Hakodate or Sapporo, you can take Hokuto or Super Hokuto. If you are in Higashi-Muroran, you can board the Suzuran to get to Noboribetsu.
From Sapporo, it will take you around one hour to reach Noboribetsu and the train fare is approximately JPY4,160. From Hakodate, it takes around two and quarter hours and the train fare is around JPY6,500.
You can also reach Noboribetsu from Tokyo on Cassiopeia or Hokutosei trains. You will need to board the train from Ueno Station. If you are in Kyoto or Osaka, take the Twilight Express, while from Aomori, you can take the Hamanasu Express.
